What were the motives for the 9/11attack?

How many Americans do you think know the reasons behind the Al Qaeda terrorist attack described in the article "September 11 Attacks" from  www.wikipedia.com? I didn't know about the Al Qaeda objectives for the attack, let alone the person who was behind it. . As you all may know September 11th is coming up.This day was a very memorable day for most Americans. Osama Bin Laden (head of the Al Qaeda group) wanted American troops and influences out of Saudi Arabia. Bin Laden claimed that Americans were "Too close to Mecca", the holiest meeting site in Islam. Another reason Osama Bin Laden hated America was because we were/are supporting Israel. The last reason was we cut off trade with Iraq in an effort to force Saddam Hussein to listen to the United States. The whole master mind behind the attack was a terrorist named Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. He presented the idea to Osama Bin Laden in 1996.

In my opinion, the 9/11 attack was uncalled for. I understand why  Osama Bin Laden did it. He was trying to protect his people and way of life from the American and Israelis ways. What I don't comprehend is why Bin Laden would want to kill so many innocent people. The people of America shouldn't suffer for the government's decisions. The government should suffer for the government's decisions. The question is who is the government?
